Work Directly with Clients

COMMUNITY LIVING PROGRAM

Our Community Living Program houses over 60 adults in 19 community based residences in the Greater Seattle area. Volunteer opportunities range in location from Ballard to Shoreline to the Eastside.

Activity Companion

Share your passion for your favorite hobby while bringing joy and new activities to others, all while promoting the inclusion of individuals with disabilities in the community.

Volunteers must commit to a minimum 1 hour a week for 3 months for this volunteer opportunity.

Home Care Maintenance Volunteer

Hoping to use your handyman skills, or looking for a group volunteer project? Adopt a house from PROVAIL’s Community Living Program and help provide yard work assistance, or complete a home maintenance project! This is a great opportunity for individuals, as well as small or large groups to have a positive impact on others and keep the living environment at the Community Living Home the best it can be.

THERAPY AND ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY CLINIC

PROVAIL’s Therapy and Assistive Technology Clinic needs volunteers who like to be challenged and enjoy bringing people with a wide range of disabilities closer to their dreams of living a full and dignified life.

Augmentative & Alternative Communication Support Volunteer

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices allow individuals who have difficulty using speech to share their needs and wants, and participate in making decisions which will affect their life. The AAC Support Volunteer will assist nonverbal or partially verbal individuals with customization of communication systems, ranging from non-tech to high-tech systems to help children and adults with disabilities maximize their communication capabilities – promoting independence and confidence in communicating with others.

Volunteers may:

  • Design and implement customized changes to the communication system
  • Identify and report functional or content issues
  • Attend occasional clinical appointments in order to collect feedback

Volunteers must commit to a minimum 3 months for up to 10hrs a week for this volunteer opportunity.

Augmentative & Alternative Communication Super Modeler

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices allow individuals who have difficulty using speech to share their needs and wants, and participate in making decisions which will affect their life. Volunteers will help children and adults make informed decisions regarding their communication devices by demonstrating AAC systems across partners and environments. Volunteers will:

  • Familiarize themselves with and develop skills using various AAC systems and devices
  • Demonstrate what using these AAC devices and systems looks like to individuals

Volunteers must commit to a minimum 3 months for up to 10hrs a week for this volunteer opportunity.

Assistive Technology Clinic Volunteer

Do you have a love of tinkering with toys, or a knack for working with computers? Join the Assistive Technology Clinic to create innovative technology-based solutions to help children and adults with disabilities maximize their independence and ability to perform tasks. Volunteers will use their passion for technology to:

  • Work with communication tools and devices
  • Modify toys to be more accessible for individuals with mobility limitations
  • Assist in maintaining and updating the Lending Toy Library Database
  • Develop Augmentative & Alternative Communication (AAC) device pages
  • Film and create informational or training videos about AAC devices
  • Build, repair, and adapt customized key guards, lap trays, or device and cup holders

Volunteers must commit to a minimum 1-2 hours a week for 3 months for this volunteer opportunity. Depending on the project, volunteers may need basic engineering/construction skills, experience working with electrical appliances or soldering, and/or familiarity with PowerPoint or iOS.

Conversation Partner

Build confidence in others and do your part to increase community inclusion by volunteering as a Conversation Partner! Conversation Partners will meet with an individual participating in one of PROVAIL’s programs who use an Augmentative & Alternative Communication (AAC) device.

Volunteers will:

  • Provide an avenue for building confidence in communicating with a communication device
  • Help develop social skills and confidence in others to engage and interact in the community
  • Gain familiarity with AAC devices and working with individuals with disabilities

Volunteers must commit to a minimum 1 hour a week for 3 months for this volunteer opportunity.

Event Volunteers

When a volunteering opportunity arises for an event, an email will be sent out to all Event Volunteers. Common events where volunteers may help out are typically fundraising events such as our annual Gala & Auction and the PROVAIL Golf Classic. Volunteers may then email back expressing their interest in volunteering for the event in question. Some examples of roles volunteers may perform for an event are:

  • Auction Item Procurement
  • Event Registration
  • Event Set Up/Take Down
  • Staffing activities like Wine Toss at our annual Gala & Auction

Photography Volunteers

We are in need of high-quality photos of our programs, clients, and volunteers. These photos will be used in marketing materials, appeals, and on our website. We will work with the photographer to create a timeline and shot list.

  • Consult on pre-production planning with the Development Team
  • Operate the camera and other equipment during an event or session
  • Coordinate with the Development Team to create specific content for our website and social media
